03/31/06 Chunky Monkey March 31, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 10:16 am

I had to take Christopher to the doctor for his ear infections and my little chunky monkey is over 21lbs!!! His nose isn’t as runny and his cough is getting better. This is good. He’s on the verge of crawling. He can spin around in a circle and roll and roll and roll. He can get his knees up or get up on his hands, but he hadn’t been able to coordinate the two. Almost though.

I got my TiVo back yesterday! So far it seems to be working. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I’ve owned the stupid thing since January and I haven’t even gotten to enjoy it 😦 If it works today (I’ve set it to record a bunch of stuff just to test it), then I think it’ll be good to go and I can set it to record all of our shows. It’ll be awesome!

I got an A- in Advanced Accounting II. 🙂 I’ve started Advanced Accounting III. Woohoo, we’re discussing Owner’s Equity.

I got a new job! I start on April 17th. I will be the Controller of an HVAC company. I gave my notice this morning. I am happy 🙂

03/28/06 A Day Away March 28, 2006

Despite the fact that Christopher has ear infections, we spent Sunday night at Camp White Branch. It got Thomas and the boys out of the house and gave them an opportunity to play in some snow. Christopher is still not very impressed with snow. It’s not my idea of a holiday … I don’t care to clean a place before and after. But we had a grand night of Cranium! Thomas and I narrowly beat the boys. I’ve discovered a couple of things … no matter how good you can hum, it’s pretty darned hard to figure out the song and I know way too much about people in the entertainment industry. I got all of those questions right, even the ones that weren’t ours.

I had a good interview yesterday at a company that is hiring a Controller. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one. It seems like a good company to work for and it’s back at a position that I am used to. So we’ll see.

School starts today for me. Oh boy, Advanced Financial Accounting III.

Well, Christopher has an ear infection in each ear and that means we spent Saturday at home. Well, it wasn’t too bad. He woke up shortly before 5am and was satisfied with just having his binky put back in his mouth. He slept until after 7am, which is a miracle for him lately! He was sort of a crank when he woke up, but after some antibiotics, tylenol, albuterol, and breakfast he was better. Then he took a 90 minute nap and was much better. We played with the big brothers for a long time. Then it was time for a short nap and lunch. Then we played some more and had an even shorter nap. Then daddy came home and mommy got a few minutes to just stare at the ceiling.

Unfortunately with ear infections, he’s all snot. His nose just runs and runs. It kind of grosses me out. I don’t like slimy things (don’t like okra) and snot is slimy. Christopher doesn’t really like me wiping his nose either, so I usually end up slimed.

We went out to dinner with mom to the Mongolian Grill. Yummy! Gotta love a place where you get instant leftovers.

Entry for March 24, 2006 March 24, 2006

Well, it’s Friday and I still don’t know how well I did on my final exam. I had a 98% going into the final week, so I’m hoping I didn’t screw it up too badly. I start my next class on Tuesday. After 5 weeks of being in class, I feel at loose ends sometimes because I think I should read something or go to class. I’M FREE! I guess I could get a head start on reading for the next class … or not. Yee haw, Intermediate Accounting III. Even I’m starting to get bored by the class names.

I have to take Christopher to the doctor this afternoon. He’s got sort of a croupy cough and it’s getting worse, not better. The last time he had something like this, he got stuck taking *3* medicines!

In another hour or so, it is spring break for the kids! They don’t have to go back to school until the 4th. We’re going to take them to … um … someplace east of here. I don’t know the name of it. It’ll be fun for them to get away for a night and a day. They’re hoping to play in some snow. As the mom, I get the joys of packing, thinking of everything, and making sure we bring everything home. I’m sure I get to cook and clean too. But I get Monday off, so next week is only a 4 day week.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all! If you’re not wearing green I get to pinch you >;-)

We had corned beef, cabbage, and boiled potatos with the boys last Sunday, so none tonight. Not that I wouldn’t mind having it again 🙂

We are probably going to the daffodil festival at the Long Tom Grange tomorrow. I just love bulb flowers! I can’t wait for my tulips to bloom! The crocuses are done in the front, but in the backyard they are still gorgeous.

Later …

Ok, so who goes out for Mexican food on St. Patrick’s Day??? We do, that’s who! LOL!

03/16/06 Layoffs and Shutdowns March 16, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Liz @ 8:30 am

Well today is the day they’re going to announce to the shop that over 20 of them are being laid off. Our new orders have dropped in half in the last couple of months, so we just don’t need the staff. Accounting is have a one week per month layoff. For now I have the weeks of 4/17 and 5/15 off. The is the second time in three years we’ve had a layoff of this scale. Part of me is saying, “Hooray, two weeks off and two weeks to spend with Christopher!” Part of me is saying, “I need a job in another industry.” So that second part of me called my contact at Accountemps to see what is out there. She may have a position for me.

Even though I’m involved with the Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) for my sister-in-law, I joined Go Red for Women because heart disease runs in my family and it is the number one killer of women; more than all of the cancers combined. I’m bummed I missed Go Red for Women Day. It was my dang birthday! If you join, you get a free red dress pin.
