Liz' s Musings's

Liz's musings on life – mostly her kids though.

I can’t believe it’s been 3 1/2 weeks since I wrote a blog entry! Going back to work really has put a crimp in doing a lot of things … writing in my blog, cooking, laundry, sleeping.

Sunday is Sarah’s baptism. Mary is going to be her god mother and Jonah is going to be her god father. Butch and Lynne are driving up as I type. They are Christopher’s god parents. I know I am not Catholic but it makes me comfortable having these ceremonies in life. I am not comfortable in my own Judiasm to have had a bris for Christopher (we just had the pediatrician do it). Both of my children will be raised in a caring religious community. The religious director at church is a really nice lady who loves children and cares about the kids getting religious training in a fun way. She’s also ok with the fact that I’m Jewish. I like the church we go to because it doesn’t look like a church. The building is octagonal (I think – I never really bother to count the sides) and 4 or 5 of the sides are glass and look out onto 14 acres of nature. The cross isn’t even in the building, it’s outside in a lovely flower and rock garden. It is a very welcoming space.

I know I have only been back to work for three weeks but I really miss the being creatively inspired by the cooking shows and actually cooking. I have no energy for cooking and it really bums me out. As a matter of fact, I don’t even know what we are going to have for dinner tonight. Nothing is thawed. It’s also probably 90 degrees outside and that doesn’t make for a fun time in the kitchen … even if we do have air conditioning. According to Rosa Lee on KFOG it is sweltering in San Francisco. So the entire west coast must be having a heat wave. Wait, I did cook … last Sunday for Mother’s Day. I made two quiches. The rest we bought at Costco. We’ll probably get food for after the baptism at Costco. I love Costco.

We had our carpets cleaned yesterday thanks to my mother-in-law. She wants our house to look nice for Butch & Lynne, even more than I do. That and she has free time. They look so clean now! I don’t want anyone to walk on the carpets now, not even with bare feet. We’ll just have to live in the dining room and kitchen.

Yeah, Liz! It’s good to see you back online. I was wondering whether it was you or Yahoomort.

Costco is wonderful—good food, good prices, and so good to their employees that they have an 1 1/2% turnover rate! It’s interesting to talk to their people about working there.

Have you seen any deer during the church services? When we were going to St Jude, sometime the deer would be grazing near the cross. (Both Helena and Carolyn were baptized at St Jude’s.)

it was 102 in San Jose this afternoon (and yesterday for that matter) on my car’s thermometer. Yeah, it is pretty hot here. Sarah is just TOOO CUTE!!! Oh my! How do you keep from just smooshing kisses on those cheeks all the time. And your son is growing into such a beautiful young man! You did good, my friend. 🙂

  3. Julie Says:

    Welcome back Liz!

What a couple of cutie pies! Sarah has grown a lot. Happy Baptism to Sarah..wish I could be there!

  4. Liz Says:

Mary, we’ve had deer and turkey sightings during church. As a matter of fact Fr. Tom stopped his homily while a family of deer walked by.

Lori – Sarah gets a zillion kisses from us all 🙂

Oh, that was another thing I was going to add to the blog … she went in to the doctor two days after she turned 3 months old. She was 16 lbs 2 ozs!!! She’d gained over 2 1/2 lbs in a month!

Now we all know why you haven’t been blogging, I didn’t realize you were back at work.

Welcome back and thanks for posting a picture too. Your kids look happy and healthy and adorable. Congratulations! (btw – we didn’t have a bris either, just the pediatrician on the last day Mike was in the hospital. It was day seven, so it was close to being the “right day”…)

Enjoy the rituals you choose to use. In my mind, it’s the family that counts, not the formality of one building or another, although that church sounds beautiful. Incorporate the things that work for you and don’t worry about the rest.

  6. Rhonda H Says:

Yay she’s back! Yeah it has been really hot here too (100s)… hope it cools off there by the time I come up there!! Can’t wait to see the two cuties (well you and Thomas too LOL).

Not gonna comment on Costco — you know how I feel about THAT place (does the word evil come to mind? No Andy, we don’t NEED a 5 gallon tub of peeled garlic, just go to Raley’s and get one head of garlic please)… oops guess I just commented on it after all :p

  7. Liz Says:

Ra – We are having unseasonably hot weather this weekend. But by the time you get here it should be much nicer!

I’ve always wanted to buy that 5 gallon tub of peeled garlic!

  8. Julie Says:

Well, I love Costco because our family of 4 goes through certain things quickly enough to warrant giant sizes. That being said, I don’t like Dave to go…

  9. Liz Says:

And Dave will buy the 5 gallon tub of peeled garlic!

We went to Costco this afternoon to buy things for after the baptism. It’s always best to forget the total …

  10. Julie Says:

Yes, he’ll buy the 5 gallons of garlic and an umbrella and a DVD and..

    Happy Baptism Day Sarah!
